TikTok Shop gives brands a way to turn product discovery into purchases without asking customers to leave the app. Someone can watch a demonstration, ask a question during a LIVE or see a creator’s recommendation, then buy the featured product through TikTok.
But opening a shop is only the starting point. To build a worthwhile sales channel, you need products people want, content that helps them decide, creators who can sell and an operation that delivers on its promises.
This guide explains how to sell on TikTok Shop in the UK, from account setup and costs to affiliate partnerships, content, LIVE shopping and paid advertising. It also shows you what to measure so you can grow with a clear view of profitability.
What is TikTok Shop and how does it work?
TikTok Shop is TikTok’s ecommerce platform. It lets approved sellers list products and take orders within TikTok, with discovery happening through shoppable videos, LIVE streams and shopping surfaces such as a brand’s profile shop.
For a brand, the journey typically works like this:
- You register as a seller and upload eligible products.
- Your brand or a creator publishes content featuring a linked product.
- A viewer taps the product link, reads the listing and checks out in TikTok.
- The order moves through your fulfilment process.
- You review sales, customer feedback and costs, then improve the next campaign.
A TikTok Shop seller sells products. A TikTok Shop affiliate creator recommends another seller’s products and can earn commission on qualifying sales. A brand can operate its own shop while working with multiple affiliates.
Is TikTok Shop right for your brand?
We recommend starting with five questions:
- Can someone understand the product’s value quickly from a video?
- Do your margins cover platform fees, creator commission, fulfilment, returns and marketing?
- Can you keep your best products in stock and fulfil orders reliably?
- Can you produce or commission new content consistently?
- Is there a clear reason to buy from you: performance, design, convenience, expertise or value?
Products that need explanation can still work. They need a content strategy that makes that explanation interesting and easy to follow. An expensive product may require several demonstrations and more reassurance than a simple everyday purchase.
Start with a small selection of hero products: the items with the strongest combination of customer appeal, demonstrable benefits, stock availability and margin. Expanding the whole catalogue can follow once you understand what customers respond to.

What are the benefits of TikTok Shop for brands?
TikTok Shop can support both brand building and sales. Give each objective its own measures so that a large view count does not hide weak commercial performance.
| Benefit | What it can do for your brand | Useful measures |
| Product and brand awareness | Introduce your products through relevant videos and creator recommendations | Reach, impressions, video views, profile visits |
| Trust and product education | Show real people using products and answering practical questions | Meaningful comments, saves, product clicks, customer feedback |
| A shorter buying journey | Connect a demonstration directly to a product listing and in-app purchase | Product click-through rate, listing conversion rate, orders |
| A reusable content library | Build a supply of demonstrations, testimonials and tutorials, with agreed usage rights | Active creators, usable assets, cost per usable asset |
| Community growth | Give customers reasons to follow, comment and return | Relevant follower growth, repeat engagement, returning viewers |
| Revenue and customer acquisition | Turn discovery into measurable orders | Sales, new customers where measurable, average order value, repeat purchases |
| Faster commercial learning | Find which questions, products and messages prompt action | Conversion by product and creative, returns, contribution after marketing |
Creator content can also support your website and other advertising channels when you have permission to use it there. Treat usage rights as part of the brief, rather than assuming a posted video belongs to your brand.
What sells best on TikTok Shop?
There is no permanent list of winning products. Demand changes with trends, seasons, offers and the quality of the content introducing the product.
TikTok’s UK shopping report, based on platform data through July 2025, highlighted beauty products, useful household technology and seasonal purchases. It reported demand for products such as Wonderskin lip stains, Ninja blenders and Shark steam mops. These are historical examples, not a current bestseller ranking.
The more useful question is: what makes your product compelling to watch and easy to buy?
| Product type | Content angle to test | What the buyer needs to know |
| Beauty and personal care | Application, routine or an honest wear test | Shade, texture, suitability and realistic results |
| Home and interiors | A practical transformation or problem solved | Dimensions, materials, preparation and how to use it |
| Food and drink | Recipes, serving ideas or taste reactions | Ingredients, pack size, storage and delivery |
| Fashion and accessories | Try-ons, styling and close-up detail | Fit, sizing, fabric and how the item looks in use |
| Useful gadgets | A real task completed on camera | Compatibility, limitations and what is included |
| Gifts | An unboxing or recipient-focused recommendation | Presentation, quality and delivery timing |
Which brands have done well on TikTok Shop?
- Frenchic Paint: Driving Growth Through TikTok Shop:Hoopla Marketing partnered with Frenchic Paint to set up and grow its TikTok Shop, bringing together ongoing shop management, organic TikTok content, affiliate creator campaigns and TikTok Shop ads.Our approach connected inspiring content with in-app shopping, helping turn product discovery into purchases and build a growing sales channel for the brand.Over six months, Frenchic generated over £255,000 in TikTok Shop sales (GMV) from more than 13,000 orders, with over 23,700 items sold.Affiliate creator videos contributed over £138,000 in sales, accounting for more than half of total TikTok Shop sales value during the period.
- Made By Mitchell: TikTok reported that the beauty brand reached $1 million in sales in one day during a 12-hour LIVE in 2024. The lesson we would take is the value of a recognisable host, repeated demonstrations and a planned shopping event.
- Wonderskin: TikTok’s 2025 shopping report said the brand sold more than 300,000 lip stains on TikTok Shop during 2024. Its visually demonstrable product offers a useful example of showing a benefit on camera.
- PUMA: TikTok reported a 737% increase in weekly revenue through an affiliate programme in its 2024 announcement. The relevant takeaway is to consider creator distribution alongside brand-owned content.

Can anybody start a TikTok Shop?
Eligible individual traders and businesses can apply, but approval is not automatic. TikTok’s UK seller terms apply to sellers resident or established in the UK and require individual sellers to be at least 18. Verification and product requirements also apply. International sellers should use the route appropriate to their circumstances.
Prepare accurate identity, business, contact and banking information, together with your shipping and returns details. For companies, TikTok may require company documents and identification for the relevant representative. Complete the checks shown for your seller type; do not use a US checklist for a UK application.
How to set up a seller account on TikTok Shop
Your TikTok Shop setup should cover the account, the catalogue and the operation behind every order.
1. Register in UK Seller Center
Open TikTok Shop UK Seller Center. Choose the seller type that matches your business and enter your details accurately. Use an email and phone number your business controls. [7]
2. Complete verification and payment details
Submit the requested identity and business documents, then link an appropriate bank account. Names and details should match your registration. Resolve any review requests before planning a firm launch date.
3. Configure fulfilment and returns
Confirm your warehouse and returns addresses, review the shipping method assigned or available to your shop, and complete any required carrier or shipping-template setup. Check that your team understands the applicable dispatch and delivery requirements.
4. Upload and organise products
Add products manually or use a supported integration, such as Shopify, where suitable. Include accurate titles, images, descriptions, prices, variants and stock. Complete the required category information and obtain any necessary permissions.
5. Connect your brand’s TikTok account
Link the appropriate official TikTok account through Seller Center so your shop and content work together. Review permissions for staff and agency partners. Follow the current setup prompts to enable available shopping features.
6. Make each listing useful to a buyer
Answer the questions someone would ask before buying: what is it, who is it for, what does it do, what is included and what size or variant should they choose?
For example, “Hoopla Home Cotton Cushion Cover, 45 × 45 cm, Sage Green” is more informative than “The Viral Cushion Everyone Needs”. This is an illustrative product name: use your own accurate brand and product details.
Show clear product images, practical scale and honest demonstrations. Keep delivery, returns and product information consistent across the listing and your content.
7. Check the full buying and fulfilment journey
Confirm that product links open the correct listing, variants and stock are accurate, orders reach the right system and customer support knows how to handle enquiries. Check the first genuine orders carefully for fulfilment or stock-sync problems.
8. Launch with content and creator activity ready
Prepare demonstrations, answers to common questions and initial creator partnerships before you start driving traffic. A shop with uploaded products still needs a reason for customers to visit and buy.
Prefer a visual walkthrough? Follow TikTok Shop Academy’s UK registration video series, then use its illustrated shop setup guide. Screens can change, so follow the current prompts in your account.
How much does it cost to start a TikTok Shop?
TikTok advertises free seller registration with no setup or listing fee. That does not mean launching and running a shop is cost-free.
At the time of review, TikTok’s published UK commission policy states a 9% standard platform commission before incentives, with an effective 5% rate for specified eligible Electronics and Beauty & Personal Care categories. Check the current classification and rate for each product in Seller Center; do not assume the reduced rate applies to an entire industry.
The published Shipped by Seller rate card also lists £0.50 per delivered package, including VAT, for that fulfilment route. FBT and Shipped via Platform are excluded from this particular charge; they have their own service costs.
| Cost | What to allow for |
| Stock | Purchase or production costs, replenishment and cash tied up in inventory |
| Platform fees | Your applicable commission and other account or service charges |
| Fulfilment | Packaging, shipping, storage and picking or packing costs |
| Creator activity | Product samples, sample delivery, affiliate commissions and agreed creator fees |
| Content | Filming, editing, hosts and usage permissions |
| Advertising | A defined testing budget and further spend only when justified |
| Offers and returns | Seller-funded discounts, refunds and return-related costs |
| Management and systems | Internal time, agency fees and integration costs |
*Rates and incentives change. Use the current Seller Center fee schedule and your actual settlements to build your budget.

How can you effectively market your brand on TikTok Shop?
Build a connected plan across product listings, engaging video content, creators, affiliates, LIVE shopping and ads.
TikTok Shop video guide: What content makes people click the product link?
Give people a specific reason to look more closely. A video should help the viewer understand a problem, see the product working and decide whether it suits them.
Use this structure as a starting point:
- Hook: show the problem, desired result or interesting product behaviour immediately.
- Demonstration: put the product to work rather than just describing it.
- Proof and reassurance: answer one meaningful objection with accurate detail.
- Action: explain what the viewer can find through the product link.
For example: “Not sure whether this organiser will fit your cupboard? Here are the exact measurements and what fits inside. Tap the product link to check the sizes.”
| Format | Example opening | Why test it? |
| Problem and solution | “If this keeps happening in your kitchen, try this…” | Connects the product to a recognisable need |
| Tutorial | “Here’s how to get this finish in three steps…” | Reduces uncertainty about using the product |
| Honest test | “I wanted to see whether this would actually…” | Gives the viewer evidence to assess |
| Unboxing with detail | “Here’s exactly what arrives in the box…” | Clarifies quality, size and what is included |
| Comparison | “Which of these two sizes is right for you?” | Helps the customer choose |
| Answer to a comment | “A few of you asked whether it works on…” | Addresses a real purchase objection |
TikTok Shop affiliate guide: how to build a programme that sells
The TikTok Shop affiliate programme connects sellers with creators who promote products for commission. You may also see it described as the “TikTok affiliate program” or “TikTok Shop affiliate program”. For brands, the job is to make your products attractive to suitable creators and support them with the information needed to sell effectively.

Choose open and targeted collaborations
Open Collaboration makes selected products available for eligible creators to discover and promote, with approval controls where configured. Target Collaboration lets you invite selected creators to work with you. These approaches can complement each other.
Use open collaborations to widen discovery and targeted outreach to build relationships around your strongest products. Check current access and eligibility in your shop before planning an activation.
How do you find creators who can sell, not just generate views?
A suitable TikTok content creator understands both the audience and the product. Follower count alone will not tell you whether they can influence a purchase.
Review available marketplace data and request relevant examples where needed:
- Category fit: have they sold or explained comparable products at a similar price?
- Recent sales evidence: look for repeat performance across several posts, not one exceptional result.
- Sales context: were results driven by a major discount, paid amplification or a different market?
- Audience relevance: will their content reach customers you can serve?
- Demonstration quality: do they show how the product works and answer buying questions?
- Reliability: do they communicate clearly and meet agreed deliverables?
- Order quality: review cancellations or returns where data is available.
Treat incomplete data as a reason for a measured test. Compare a creator’s results with the cost of samples, fees and commission before extending the relationship.
What commission should you offer affiliates?
Set a rate that is competitive for your category and sustainable for your business. Check comparable offers and calculate what remains after your other costs. A higher percentage is not automatically a better offer if the product is difficult to sell or frequently out of stock.
You can use targeted arrangements to reward valuable partners. Where enabled for invited sellers, TikTok also supports a separate Shop Ads commission rate for orders generated through ads. Check availability and terms before assuming paid-driven sales will attract a different rate.
Make the full offer clear: product, commission, samples, expected content, any fixed payment and the rights you require. Avoid promising sales or income to creators.
How many samples should you send?
Sample volume should follow the economics and your ability to manage partnerships. For a suitable brand, 30–50 units in a month could be an initial planning scenario, with expansion towards 100 units only when posting rates, useful content and sales justify it. High-cost or low-stock products may call for a much smaller test.
Track the journey from invitation to accepted partnership, sample delivered, content published, first order and repeat sales. Product seeding is an investment, even when no creator fee is paid.
Does gifting guarantee content?
No. Unconditional gifting does not guarantee a post. If you require a video, a deadline or specific usage rights, agree those terms explicitly or use an appropriate collaboration arrangement with clear obligations.
Give creators a concise brief covering the target customer, main benefit, demonstration ideas, accurate product facts, claims to avoid and the correct listing. Leave room for their own voice.
Record permission for paid ads, edits, duration, territory and use on other channels. A creator’s willingness to post organically should not be treated as automatic permission for every future marketing use.

TikTok Shop Live Guide: How to use LIVE shopping and promotions
LIVE shopping lets a host demonstrate products and respond to questions as they arise. It can be especially useful when buyers need help with variants, application, fit or bundles.
Plan a repeatable session with a clear product focus. A sample 45-minute format could include an opening demonstration, two practical use cases, buyer questions, a comparison and a closing recap. Repeat essential information naturally as new viewers join.
Make sure your host has accurate product information, the featured items are available and someone can manage comments and operational issues. Start with a manageable schedule, then compare sales and contribution with hosting, production and promotional costs.
Bundles, discounts and genuine time-limited offers can support a session. Check the final margin after commissions, shipping and any stacked promotions. Urgency should reflect a real deadline or stock position.
Review relevant campaign opportunities in Seller Center, including platform-funded or co-funded offers where available. Funding, entry requirements and visibility are conditional; include only confirmed support in your budget.

TikTok Shop Ads Guide: What are the best practices for creating effective TikTok ads?
Strong TikTok Shop ads make the product easy to understand and give viewers a reason to act. Start with a clear commercial objective, a credible offer and a product page that answers the same questions as the creative.
Understand Spark Ads and GMV Max
Spark Ads is an ad format using organic TikTok posts, including authorised creator posts. It allows promotion to retain the identity and engagement of the original content.
GMV Max is the current campaign route for new TikTok Shop-destination campaigns. TikTok’s migration guidance says GMV Max replaced the creation of the previous Shop-destination Video Shopping, Product Shopping and LIVE Shopping campaign types. Product GMV Max and LIVE GMV Max serve different selling contexts.
These are not two interchangeable campaign choices. For Shop sales, plan around the available GMV Max tools and ensure suitable brand and creator content is authorised. Spark Ads remains relevant across supported broader TikTok advertising objectives. [14, 15]
When should you scale organic winners with ads?
Our recommended checkpoint is evidence of buyer interest, workable economics and operational readiness. Before increasing spend, look for:
- Product clicks and genuine purchases across a meaningful period, rather than likes alone.
- A healthy listing conversion rate and no obvious delivery or review problem.
- Enough contribution per order to support advertising.
- Sufficient stock and reliable fulfilment.
- Valid creative and music rights for the planned campaign.
- More than one promising video, so growth does not depend on a single asset.
You can also run a controlled paid test before organic sales become established. Set a learning budget, success criteria and a review point; organic traction is useful evidence, not a mandatory platform requirement.
Increase investment when results remain commercially sound across several days and creatives. Investigate weak performance before adding budget. There is no universal number of views or fixed budget increase that makes a campaign ready to scale.
Build creative for the platform
Use vertical 9:16 video, readable captions and clear audio. Keep important text away from interface overlays and show the product or benefit early. TikTok’s own creative guidance recommends people-led content and a natural style suited to the feed. [16]
Test different propositions, not only different edits. For one product, compare a practical demonstration, a customer objection, a value explanation and a relevant use case. Record which angle creates clicks, orders and worthwhile contribution.
Use automation to help distribute and optimise campaigns, while keeping human oversight of product selection, claims, creative quality, budget and stock. With GMV Max, focus on the controls available in your account rather than assuming the manual audience structure of older campaigns.
How much should you spend on TikTok ads?
For a brand with suitable margins, stock and creative, £100 per day could be a working test budget. That is £3,000 over 30 days, excluding management, content and samples. It is a planning example, not TikTok’s minimum and not a requirement for every shop.
Choose a budget that can produce useful learning without exceeding your acceptable test loss. Avoid spreading a limited budget across too many products. Allow for new creative and operational support, not just media spend.
Read GMV Max reporting carefully
TikTok states that Product GMV Max attributes orders for promoted products to the campaign, including organic and affiliate orders. Its reported ROI therefore should not automatically be read as incremental paid-ad ROAS.
Review total Shop performance alongside ad spend, creator costs, returns and contribution. Compare against an appropriate baseline, accounting for promotions and seasonality. Where volume allows, use controlled measurement to assess the additional sales advertising produces.
Keep your shop healthy as sales grow
Marketing performance depends on the buying experience. Monitor listing accuracy, stock, delivery, cancellations, returns and customer service, and assign someone to act on problems.
TikTok’s Shop Performance Score covers product satisfaction, fulfilment and logistics, and customer service. Use the current diagnosis and category benchmarks in Seller Center to prioritise improvements. A newly launched shop may not yet have enough qualifying order history to display a score.
Operational checks should happen frequently, not only when a monthly marketing report arrives. Pause promotion of unavailable or problematic products while the issue is resolved.
Which TikTok Shop metrics should you track?
Use a shared dashboard that connects activity to commercial results.
| Area | Metrics | Decision they support |
| Awareness | Reach, impressions, video views and engagement | Which messages attract relevant attention? |
| Content | Product clicks, click-through rate, conversion and sales by creative | Which videos help people buy? |
| Affiliates | Active posting creators, sample-to-post rate, orders, returns and contribution | Which partnerships deserve further investment? |
| Shop | Revenue, orders, average order value and listing conversion | Which products and offers work? |
| Ads | Spend, reported ROI or ROAS, CPA and creative results | Where should budget be tested or adjusted? |
| Operations | Delivery, cancellations, refunds, service issues and Shop Performance Score | What could harm customer experience? |
| Profit | Net revenue and contribution after variable marketing costs, then fixed costs | Is growth financially worthwhile? |
Define the basis of every measure. For example, sample-to-post rate means creators who published divided by creators whose samples were delivered in the chosen cohort. Use consistent time windows for comparisons.
Avoid adding affiliate-attributed revenue to GMV Max revenue as if they were separate totals. Attribution can overlap; reconcile reporting to actual Shop orders and settlements.
More frequently asked questions
Do you need a website to sell on TikTok Shop?
Customers can complete a TikTok Shop purchase within TikTok, so a separate ecommerce checkout is not needed for that transaction. An existing website can still support your wider brand presence.
Can you connect TikTok Shop to Shopify?
Yes, TikTok’s UK setup guidance includes Shopify product syncing. [2] Check the integration against your stock, order and fulfilment workflow before launch.
Can you sell without appearing on camera?
Yes. You can test hands-only demonstrations, product close-ups and tutorials, or work with creators and hosts. The content still needs to explain the product clearly and give buyers confidence.
Do you have to pay for TikTok ads?
Ads are not the only way to generate sales. Brand videos, affiliates, LIVE content and shopping discovery can contribute. Paid activity should have a defined role in your growth plan, supported by the economics.
How long does it take to get sales?
There is no dependable universal timeline. Results depend on approval, product demand, content, pricing, creators and fulfilment. Set an initial testing period and review leading indicators, then orders and profit, rather than relying on a promised launch-day result.
Can you use a creator’s video in ads?
Only when you have the required permissions and platform authorisation for that use. Agree duration, edits and channels as well as the media permission. Check the music and other third-party content too.
